AN Eden brewery came to the rescue when five abandoned ducklings fell out of their nest.

Brewer Linda Stanton was working at Eden Brewery, which is in the grounds of Brougham Hall, near Penrith, when the five fluffy ducklings fell from a nest on top of one of the medieval halls' walls on Tuesday.

Miss Stanton and brewery owner Jason Hill gathered the five ducklings together in a bucket and looked for their mother.

“We searched for their mum and left the ducklings close to the nest throughout the day, but there was no sign of mum,” said Mr Hill.

"Following a call to the RSPCA we were advised to take them home and put them under a heat lamp before they perished in the cold night air.

"I took them home and gave them some food and they spent the night all tucked up together under a heat lamp."

On Wednesday the five ducklings were safely handed over to RSPCA officer Graham Carter, who came and took them away to a shelter where they will be reared and released into the wild.

Mr Hill said: "We had become quite attached to them by the end of it all and we were sad to see them go."
