A GP Recruitment Fair is being held in Cumbria next month to encourage more family doctors to live and work in our county.

NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is hosting the event on Friday 17th June, in collaboration with Cumbria Health on Call (CHoC) and other partners.

A lot of work to develop exciting opportunities within General Practice in Cumbria is currently underway and will be highlighted for interested medics.

Doctors and trainees will be able to speak to local GPs and discuss the advantages of the county and the diverse roles and career opportunities available within General Practice.

The drop-in event will take place from 1:00pm to 8:00pm at the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership at Redhills, Penrith.

Confirmed speakers currently include: Carlisle GP Doctor Chris Corrigan, Cumbria Doctor Charlotte Hattersley and accountant Andrew Pow.

Dr Hugh Reeve, Interim Chief Clinical Officer for NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group said: “There are so many opportunities in Cumbria available and this GP Recruitment Fair will help to showcase them.

“There are few places as diverse as Cumbria, you can travel from an urban centre to the rurality of the fells and then to the seaside within an hour. People are often surprised at the range of issues our communities face and at the growing number of opportunities to train and develop professionally, with the links between our GPs and Cumbria’s hospitals.”

Caroline Rea, Director of Primary Care for NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group Said:  “This is an excellent opportunity to come to the area and speak to the GPs already working here about the opportunities available in General Practice and the work/life balance the county has to offer.

“GPs who live and work here know it is a great place to work and hopefully this event will encourage medics to discover this for themselves. We can really help create roles within General Practice that can match their ambition and we also know that if people train in an area they are more likely to choose to stay and work there.

“There are various new opportunities for doctors being developed in the county including research opportunities in partnership with UCLAN working alongside colleagues in the acute hospitals to develop more specialist skills or to work within community services.”
