A BBC drama which was largely filmed in South Lakeland has been recommissioned for another series after the success of its debut outing.
The A Word, the story of the Hughes family which has Joe, a six-year-old boy with autism, at its heart, first aired on BBC One in March with 4.7m viewers watching the first episode.
It was written by BAFTA award-winning writer Peter Bowker and features an all-star cast including former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston.
It was filmed at various locations throughout Cumbria, including Ambleside, Broughton-in-Furness and Keswick.
Charlotte Moore, acting director of television, said: “Following BBC Drama's tremendous start to the year, it is clear audiences are looking for even greater ambition and high quality. So I want to continue to expand our range even further and reaffirm my commitment to commission the very best drama in the UK."
