A man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for sexually assaulting another male.

Martin Marine, 48, of Hartlepool, was sentenced today (May 27th) at Carlisle Crown Court after being found guilty of the offence at an earlier hearing.

He went back to the victim’s house with another person to carry on drinking and while there stated he could not get home, so the victim agreed he could stay the night.

The victim has then fallen asleep and awoken to find that he was being sexually assaulted by Marine.

Detective Constable Garin Scott said: “Marine is a dangerous man who targets young and vulnerable men.

“Sexual assault has a huge impact on victims and their families, and I hope today’s sentence brings some sort of closure to the brave victim in this case.

“Cumbria Constabulary is committed to thoroughly and compassionately investigating all reports of sexual offences. We will not stop in our drive to bring offenders to justice and hopefully this outcome will help to encourage victims of sexual offences to have the confidence to come forward and report it.”
