WINDERMERE Town Council has chosen its mayor for the next year.

The incumbent Councillor Leith Hallatsch, who represents Bowness South, was re-elected by unanimous vote for a second term at a town council meeting.

Cllr Hallatsch, who served as deputy mayor before he took office at the beginning of his first term as mayor, said: "I am very happy that the councillors have supported me and re-elected me for another twelve months as mayor.

"I think we had a really good year last year. I try to be a good old fashioned mayor who goes about his business and gets things done. I am delighted to serve another term for the people of the Windermere area."

Central to Cllr Hallatsch's approach as mayor is his belief in the importance of having a presence in the town he serves.

He said: "Last year I was able to get out and about in the community. I get invited to a lot of events and I am happy to go along and support them.

"I believe that is what a mayor should do as the community head and the leader of the council.

"We have a very good council here in Windermere and I would hope that this year we can do things to remind people that they have got a council that they can get in contact with. Members of the public are always welcome at meetings.

"We want people to know that they have councillors they can talk to to bring issues to our attention."

Councillor Lisa Greasley, who represents Windermere Town, was elected deputy mayor.
