A GROUNDBREAKING festival of drama that will take to the streets of a South Lakeland town later this year still has room for more thespians.

Actors are still being sought for the Kendal Yarns Festival of New Plays which will see more than 200 drama performances at 12 venues centred around the town.

Anyone keen to get involved in one of the 58 plays based on Kendal is invited to the Salvation Army Hall, Gillinggate, on Thursday June 30, starting at 7pm.

Chris Taylor, Artistic Director of Kendal Community Theatre, plans some gentle ice breaking manoeuvres to help put the large band of players at ease.

The festival will begin with a Grand Fashionable Night at the Shakespeare Centre at 7pm on Saturday July 23.

Performances begin on Monday starting at 1pm until 7.30pm each day until Friday. All are free.

Saturday is gala day when all 58 plays will be performed starting at 10am. The band of strolling players will put on 42 plays in four different locations.

There will be gala performances of another 16 plays at Kendal Town Hall over two different shows.

Some of the writers of the plays are experienced while for some it is their very first 'published' work. Kendal Community Theatre is fulfilling its pledge to perform them all.
