ANGELIC voices will fill Settle next month with the arrival of the National Youth Girls’ Choir.

The choir will be participating in a Summerfest residential course, three concerts and a public open day.

The National Youth Girls’ Choir is one of five choirs that make up the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain (NYCGB).

Every year, the choirs travel to different venues around the UK for their courses and concerts, and this summer sees the 150-strong National Youth Girls’ Choir and their music director Esther Jones in the Yorkshire Dales from Tuesday July 26 until Saturday July 30.

During this time there will be lots of opportunities for talented young singers in the area to find out more about joining the choir and see performances.

On Thursday July 28, from 10.30am until 12.45pm, people can find out what an NYCGB residential course is all about at a special free open morning at Giggleswick School.

Guests will get an exclusive’ behind the scenes’ look at rehearsals, and receive their own singing warm-up from NYCGB’s skilled music staff.

On Friday July 29, from 2pm until 2.45pm, Settle Marketplace shoppers can expect to be serenaded by selected members of the NYCGB choir at a free pop-up concert.

And two concerts - one by the juniors and the other by the seniors - will be given on Saturday at the Richard Whiteley Theatre at Giggleswick School.

These will feature a colourful selection of world music from Macedonia and Mexico, and a new composition by Howard Blake, known for his theme to The Snowman.

A full listing of all events taking place around the UK can be found at www.nycgb.org.uk/summerfest16

Anyone interested in attending the open day can sign up at NYCGB’s website on www.nycgb.org.uk
