EIGHT new jobs could be created if a new concrete batching plant gets the go-ahead at Lindal-in-Furness.

Alan Wilson, of Endmoor construction services company L and W Wilson, has submitted plans for the site, which was last used as railway sidings for iron ore.

Cement, aggregate and additives would be stored in silos and bays, mixed with water and delivered by mixer truck to building sites on the Furness peninsula, according to planning documents.

Up to 100 cubic metres of concrete would be supplied daily, and the site has been chosen for its closeness to Ulverston - saving 70km and 28km respectively on round trips from the nearest concrete plants at Kendal and Barrow-in-Furness.

South Lakeland's local plan has identified the need for 1,068 new houses in Ulverston by 2025, and GlaxoSmithKline is investing in a major new factory in the town, add planning documents.

The plans are with South Lakeland District Council.
