Members of Cumbria Constabulary’s Cycle Club have completed a 210 mile cycling challenge in order to raise money for the force’s endorsed charity, the Calvert Trust.

14 people consisting of serving and retired officers, staff and friends completed the Tommy Godwin challenge by completing a route that took them round the majority of Cumbria’s main policing boundaries.

Starting at 5am on Saturday the 25th June they cycled 212 miles, climbing over 14,000ft, in under 19 hours.

The riders were:

  •          Paul Senior
  •          Martin Plummer
  •          Justin Bibby
  •          Lee Skelton
  •          Lee Brumpton
  •          Richard Massey
  •          Jez Carrick
  •          Paul Williams
  •          Ian McClymont
  •          Steve Stamper
  •          Colin West
  •          Mike Hargreaves
  •          Steve Alecock
  •          James Sedgwick

Sergeant Lee Brumpton said:

“I think all of us who took part in the challenge would agree it was one of the hardest things we have ever done. The conditions were not favourable with heavy downpours which makes a total of 14,000ft of climbing even more difficult.

“I’d like to thank all those who have supported us and would ask anyone who feels like donating to do so as it is for a very worthy cause.

“I’d also like to thank Paul Senior for organising the challenge, DC Chris Hind who drove the support vehicle, Stephenson’s of Appleby for providing refreshments and Anne Bainbridge and Fiona Packham for providing some homemade tray bakes, which were much needed.”
