A KENDAL mother and daughter will be chopping off their long locks to help children with cancer.

Kerry Ann Wilks and her mum, Janice Dixon, want to raise money for the Little Princess Trust.

Having seen a close family member battle with cancer, it is a charity that is close to Kerry Ann's heart.

"We have had cancer in the family and remember what it was like when the relative lost their hair," Kerry Ann said. "Kids can get bullied. It seemed like a worthy cause."

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Hair must be at least seven inches in length to donate and both Kerry Ann, 29, and her mum, 44, are hoping to be able to give a total of 10 inches of their hair each.

For Kerry Ann, it will be a big change, as she has only been to the hairdressers twice in the past 10 years.

She hopes that at event, which will be held at the Ye Olde Fleece Inn in Kendal on July 23, men will also get involved.

"There was talk of men having their legs or chests waxed as well," she said.

Local salon, Jo and Cass, have donated two staff members to cut hair at the event, which will take place between 12-3pm.

For those who do not have long enough hair to donate, there will also be a cake sale and raffle.

Each real hair wig costs the charity on average between £350-£500.

The Little Princess Trust recently made headlines as former One Direction singer, Harry Styles, cut his trademark hair off for the charity.

Monica Glass, charity manager at the Little Princess Trust, said that they were 'grateful' to Kerry Ann and Janice for their support.

"Both women and all that join them in this event can rest assured that their actions will have a profoundly positive impact on a child's life," she said.

Karry Ann has appealed to local companies to donate raffle prizes, which can be sent to 50 Peat Lane, Kendal, LA9 6LF.
