A GROUP of Nigerian teachers have visited schools in South Lakeland and Furness during a ten day trip to Cumbria to learn about teaching in the United Kingdom.
Their visit was organised by Supplyline (Dream project) and much of the funding for the trip has been raised through the generosity of individuals and churches from Cornwall through to Whitehaven.
Two primary school head teachers, Pastor Chika Cyril and Glory Ishaku Charles Yamta, along with Frank Ogbikaya, a secondary head of mathematics, visited Queen Katherine School, Kendal.
The group has also visited Castle Park Primary School, Kendal; Burton Morewood Primary School; Heron Hill Primary School, Kendal; St Oswald’s Primary School, Burneside, and Walney School.
The Nigerian teachers said they had been impressed by their warm welcome and the curiosity and friendliness of Cumbria children. They have also taken time during their trip to talk with Cumbrian head teachers and senior leaders about leading change in education.
