Parking charges are to be introduced at a car park in Penrith

Eden District Council has issued a public notice setting out a number of changes to off-street parking, including its intention to introduce parking charges at Drovers Lane Car Park, at the rear of the Town Hall in Penrith.

The Drovers Lane Car Park, which has its entrance between Bath Terrace and Lowther Terrace was built by the Council on the site of the former Magistrates Court and Co-operative bakery buildings. It was completed in January 2015 and since that time members of the public have used the car park free of charge, although that situation is due to come to an end.

Subject to any representations which may be received in response to the notice, the Council will be in a position to formally make the parking Order after the 11 July deadline and so charges are likely to be introduced at Drovers Lane Car Park in mid-July.

Pay and Display signage has already been erected in the car park and a ticket machine will be installed in time for parking charges coming into force.

Parking charges at the Drovers Lane Car Park will apply Monday to Saturday between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm and will be as follows:

·         Up to 1 hour £1.00

·         Up to 2 hours £1.90

·         Up to 4 hours £3.30

·         Up to 10 hours £4.80

Disabled persons badge holders will be able to park for free in any space when displaying their Blue Badge.

The notice of the parking Order which was published in full in the Public Notices section of the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald on 18 June is also on display in Drovers Lane Car Park itself and can be found on the Council’s website: http://www.eden.gov.uk/parkingplacesorder2016/. A copy of the Order can also be inspected at the Town Hall, Penrith during normal office hours, Monday to Friday.

The Order also includes proposals for changes to season tickets, Disabled Persons’ parking and penalty charges at other car parks in Penrith and Appleby.
