VOLUNTEERS donned their rubber gloves to help restore a charity's building which was severely damaged during the December floods.

Kendal Lads and Girls Club can now officially open its doors after a ‘Clean Up’ campaign led by concentrated disinfectant brand Zoflora left the centre “spic and span” following renovation work.

Storm Desmond flooded the Beezon Field club, leaving behind wet carpets, dirty floors, ruined furniture and a damaged roof.

The centre was completely damp, and the floor needed replacing.

Following the installation of the new floors, a team of cleaners commissioned by Zoflora joined volunteers to clean the centre from top to bottom, scrubbing every last nook and cranny, removing any dust and debris.

Centre manager Ian Parr said: “Now the floor has been re-laid, the centre is completely functional. It was really dusty after the renovation, and now thanks to Zoflora’s Clean Up’ it is ready to re-open at full capacity.

“We really appreciate Zoflora coming to help us get to this stage, and the centre smells wonderful.”

Kendal Lads and Girls Club is a volunteer-led registered charity which allows young people to take part in clubs and activities that they may not otherwise have access to.

It is a facility which aims to help young people, give them a place to spend their time, to teach them valuable life lessons and raise awareness of issues such as drug and alcohol use.

Sarah Fozzard, senior brand manager at Zoflora, said: “After the devastation the floods left behind last year, we wanted to do something to help. Kendal Lads and Girls Club is a great facility, and ensures that the younger generation have somewhere to go and enjoy themselves, so we were delighted to be able to assist the centre in getting back up and running.”

Zoflora also provided snacks, refreshments, campaign T-shirts and product-packed goody bags for the volunteers and services users at the centre to enjoy.
