AFTER successful tests to wash Ulverston's famous Sir John Barrow monument in coloured light, there are plans to install new floodlights at the Hoad Hill landmark.
If the hi-tech colour-changing lights by local LED experts Marl International get the go-ahead, they are to be switched on during September's Ulverston Lantern Festival, according to plans.
Ulverston Town Council hopes to have three new lights installed at a cost of £22,352, bringing the total number up to eight. They would be set into concrete below ground and covered with non-slip glass, to prevent trip hazards around the 100-feet-high limestone tower, which is Grade ll* listed.
Back in March, Ulverston town clerk Jayne Kendall told the Gazette: "There was a fantastic response to the tests on social media and the overall verdict is hugely positive. To undertake the work the town council will need to seek extra funding or sponsorship, but it is vital that such a wonderful landmark is quite literally shown in the very best light!”
