A MAN from Kendal was told he must sign the sex offenders' register after he admitted two crimes.

Rufino Joao Ferreira, 41, answered the charges when he appeared in the dock at Carlisle Crown Court.

During a short hearing in front of Judge Barbara Forrester, Ferreira entered guilty pleas to two counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming.

The first offence was committed on January 3 this year, and the second occurred three days later.

No details about the crimes were outlined, although it is said one of them occurred at Lancaster.

Christopher Evans, defending, told the court that Ferreira, of Acre Moss Lane, Kendal, was a man of previous good character.

Mr Evans suggested the case be adjourned in order that the probation service could prepare a pre-sentence report on the defendant.

Judge Forrester agreed, and told Ferreira he must meet with a probation officer to allow background information to be gathered.

Ferreira was remanded on conditional bail, and is due to learn his fate at the crown court on August 2.

The judge informed him he was now subject to the notification requirements, which means he has to sign the sex offenders' register.
