LEGO-themed fun galore is to be had at Rheged this summer.

An eight-metre long model of the Flying Scotsman is among the stars of the Bricks in Time exhibition, which will be delighting fans of the Danish-invented toy until September 4.

Professional LEGO artists have brought to life some of Britain's most important historical moments, with highlights including a giant diorama of Saxon life, Peter Rabbit author Beatrix Potter and her creations, Tudor monarchs and a large model of Lowther Castle, near Penrith, and the 'yellow Earl'. The scenes are bustling with Minifigures and LEGO characters dressed in period costumes, and have been created by master builders Bright Bricks.

To spark children's imagination, there are brick-building activities, from racing your own wind-powered train to creating a model for the zipwire, constructing catapults and creating family portraits in LEGO. There are daily workshops too, such as Make and Take a Minifig - create your own customised LEGO Minifigure by mixing and matching a head, body, legs, hair, hats and accessories - £2.65; and Make and Take a Miniature LEGO Flying Scotsman - the iconic steam engine is recreated as a collectable miniature, complete with Minifig to ride on top - £6.

Also, look out for the spotters' trail to find the LEGO models dotted around Rheged - trail sheet 20p.
