HOUSE building firm Russell Armer Ltd is delivering a multi-million pound housing scheme in Kendal with support from NatWest.

The firm has begun work on an 18-unit residential development on Brigsteer Road, on the site of the Tenterfield building, after securing a £2.05m loan to fund the project.

Encompassing a mix of new builds and conversions, the scheme will see a former NHS building transformed into three houses and seven apartments, with a further eight houses to be built on the surrounding land.

Russell Armer’s managing director, Martyn Nicholson, said: “The project at Tenterfield will see the creation of new housing in a highly sought after area.

“The development will bring the Tenterfield building back into use and create much-needed housing in a popular area.“

He added: “We have had great support from the team at NatWest who understand our goals and business aspirations."

Two of the apartments are affordable homes for locals which will be sold at a discount to the open market at prices set by SLDC and first completions are expected in nine to 12 months’ time.

Originally developed as a private house, Tenterfield later became the nurses’ accommodation for the nearby general hospital before the facilities were moved to their current location on Burton Road.

The existing stone built house will be renovated and altered to form three houses and seven apartments.

Gavin Deakin, a director of real estate with NatWest, said Russell Armer boasts a long history of delivering 'excellent' residential projects, meeting the housing needs of the regions within which it operates.

He continued: “This new development at Tenterfield is another example of this commitment. We wish the business every success for the future."
