A new edition of Lakeland author Arthur Ransome's classic Swallows and Amazons is to be published next month by Puffin to tie in with the new film version.

Swallows and Amazons, originally published in 1930, tells the story of the Walker children, whose summer holiday in the Lake District sees them sailing their boat ‘Swallow’ to a local island, only to find themselves up against a couple of girls who call themselves the Amazons.

It is an enchanting tale of camping, sailing, exploration, battles and friendships.

On Sunday night the new Swallows and Amazons film had its world premiere at Keswick's Theatre by the Lake.

Many of its stars, including Kelly MacDonald (who plays Mrs Walker), Jessica Hynes (Mrs Jackson), Hannah Jayne Thorp of Kendal, who plays Peggy Blackett, and the other child actors and actresses, walked down the red carpet at the glitzy event.
