NETHERFIELD'S cup game with Chorley was abandoned at the weekend after they had already posted 211-6 in the first innings.

The Field looked in a strong position to progress from this 2nd round Readers Cup tie until the heavens opened to put an end to play.

Impressive youngster James Park-Johnson was given the chance to open the batting at Parkside Road with captain Ben Barrow for company, and the 17-year-old faired much better than his skipper.

Barrow went for five with Netherfield on 29 while Park-Johnson secured his second half century of the weekend.

Third man John Huck had a brief spell at the crease as he was caught behind for three, but the real star of the show was New Zealander Tom Bruce.

He blasted his way to triple figures with 14 fours and two sixes before eventually being removed for 100 by Edwin Moulton.

Dan Ingham and Luke Richardson both chipped in with 17 runs apiece as Netherfield closed the game's only innings on 211-6.
