AN UNIQUE art installation designed by schoolchildren is to go on show this summer.

Pupils at Langdale Primary School have been working with Ings based artist and ceramicist Sally Toms, who, together with head teacher Sally Jenkinson, has inspired the children to create their best memories of the school and their environment, laying this onto clay tiles.

For Ms Toms, who attended Langdale School as a child and studied at the Royal College of Art in London, the work has a very personal connection.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with the children of Langdale School and having been a pupil there myself many years ago, this particular project is very special,” she said.

“The children have created some incredible work, their own fun and special memories of Langdale School. And clay lasts. This art installation could still be enjoyed in 100 years’ time, so this is a legacy for them and for the school.”

The project has been sponsored by luxury five-star establishment, Nanny Brow, with owner, Susan Robinson, visiting the school to watch the children in action.

“It’s been fascinating to see the children so inspired and watch their ideas take shape,” said Susan. “It’s so important for local businesses to reach out and ensure that wonderful projects and opportunities like these are available for our schoolchildren. It’s been a real joy to be involved in such a worthwhile experience."

Head teacher Sally Jenkinson said: “It’s been an honour to have Sally here and fascinating to see her inspiring the children in such an engaging and inclusive project; and through the generosity of local sponsors like Susan Robinson at Nanny Brow, projects such as this one can come to life.

"We are looking forward to installing ‘postcards from Langdale School’ and hope it will be enjoyed by future generations.”
