MEMBERS of the Cumbria Army Cadet Force (ACF) have been busy preparing for their annual summer camp at Queen Elizabeth II Barracks, Strensall in North Yorkshire.

Some 149 cadets and 42 Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) from across the county will be heading to the camp for 12 days for an action packed programme of obstacle courses, field craft activities, shooting, adventure training and military tasks. The week will also include a day trip to Flamingo Land.

Cadets will be given the opportunity to develop their team work and leadership skills whilst having fun and making new friends. The progressive training offered to cadets and CFAVs is not only offered at summer camp, but all year round, offering opportunities to rise up the ranks.

Burma (South Lakes) Company Commander, Major Rachel Diss said: “I’m looking forward to working with the senior cadets, watching them problem solve on their survival exercise and take lead roles in their teamwork activities.”

Kendal Detachment have been busy practising their field craft skills, such as patrolling and living in the field, as well as learning how to pack their kit efficiently. The cadets have been enjoying their newly-refurbished facilities after the floods.

Summer camp is the highlight of the ACF calendar where cadets consolidate the skills they have learned throughout the year, and make new friends from detachments across the county.

Colonel Anthony Steven, Commandant of Cumbria ACF, said, “I am immensely looking forward to summer camp at Strensall. This event is the highlight of our training year, where our cadets and adult volunteers spend two weeks fulfilling our goals of action, adventure, fun and friendship. My thanks go to all my adult volunteers and permanent staff who work so hard to make this event happen.”

Cumbria ACF is always looking for reliable and responsible adults to volunteer as instructors around the County. Search Cumbria Army Cadets for more information or call 01228 516225.
