A 26-YEAR-OLD man suffered life-threatening injuries after accidentally stabbing himself in the groin yesterday afternoon in Long Marton, near Appleby.

The Great North Air Ambulance was called to assist the North West Ambulance Service to assess and treat the man for ‘a substantial’ wound at around 5.30pm.

The medical team used specialist haemostatic dressings along with military pressure dressings to stem the bleed.

The man was given blood on scene and in the helicopter while being flown to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for emergency surgery. It is now understood that the man is not in immediate danger.
