FIONA Clucas is quite simply a terrific artist whose birdlife and landscape paintings have wowed many an art aficionado down the years.

Highly revered far and wide, in November 2013 she was elected as a full member of the Society Of Wildlife Art.

Recently she was the winner of the British Wildlife Award, one of two top awards at the recent National Exhibition of Wildlife Art in Cheshire.

She has also been invited to exhibit at Art On The Wing at Roselle House Galleries in Ayr, which runs until September 11.

Closer to home you can see seven of her mixed media works in the prestigious Lake Artists Summer Exhibition at Grasmere, and Fiona's work is also showing in Beatrix Potter`s Inspiring Legacy at Kendal Museum until September 8.

And that's not all - she will also be in the frame for the Witherslack Artists and Makers Group's 21st exhibition at Witherslack, which starts on Saturday, September 10 and runs until October 9 (10am-5pm).

The day after the WAMG's exhibition (Sunday, September 11), Fiona opens her studio along with the other artisans at Tom and Abi Attwood's popular Halecat Nursery at Witherslack for a special open day.

Fiona's Halecat contemporaries also opening their creative homes includes basket maker, Jane Bradley, textile batik artist, Caroline King, Kate Wilson, who produces machine knitwear and Jules Evans, who revamps furniture.

The open day also features pieces by invited ceramicist Lara Clahane.

All in all, a pretty busy time for Levens-based Fiona, who is well-known as a founding member of Kendal’s remarkable Green Door arts group, set-up in 1995.

Returning to the Witherslack group's exhibition, and little did esteemed printmaker Judy Evans know way back in 1995 that her solo exhibition in the Old Schoolroom would grow and blossom into one of the area's best-known and respected professional shows.

Now with around 15 regulars representing fine art, ceramics, basketry, rush work, kiln-formed glass, printmaking, jewellery, stone carving, textile art and chairmaking, the group show is a vibrant display of colours and textures.

This year as per usual there will be guests - Janette Phillips, who has a studio at The Factory in Kendal, and produces wonderfully inventive flower paintings, alongside a talented group of weavers from the Weaving Studio, also based at The Factory; the group will be showing some of their acclaimed hand-loomed creations.

A veritable feast of art.
