A CYCLIST who died after a crash in the Lake District on Wednesday has been named.
It is believed Dr Simon Newell, 59, came off his bike on Newlands Pass, near Keswick, at around 8.40am.
Mr Newell was a renowned paediatrician who lived and worked in Leeds.
He leaves behind his wife, three children – aged 26, 30 and 31 – and a baby granddaughter.

His family said: “Simon loved Cumbria and had been going there to enjoy the mountains for over 30 years. He particularly loved Braithwaite, where he had a cottage and planned to retire with his wife, Dr Debra Newell.”
The road was closed for four hours while police carried out their enquiries.
