MEMBERS of South Lakes Labour voted to nominate Jeremy Corbyn over Owen Smith in the upcoming leadership contest.
Forty-eight members attended the nomination meeting at Abbot Hall Social Centre in Kendal and they voted 31 for Mr Corbyn and 14 for Mr Smith with three abstentions.
Members were given ten minutes to read statements from each candidate before taking part in a lively 30 minute discussion.

A proposal from the floor for South Lakes Labour not to nominate a candidate was defeated.
Lord Clark of Windermere, who previously served in parliament with Mr Corbyn, argued in favour of Mr Smith. Other members spoke passionately for Mr Corbyn, highlighting the socialist principles he has instilled in the Party and a strong sense of trust in him as an individual.
