AN ULVERSTON based healthcare company has launched a new apprenticeship programme.

GlaxoSmithKline is offering three year technical apprenticeships, aimed at school and college leavers.

Joanne O’Flaherty, head of global manufacturing and supply validation, said: “Our new apprenticeship programme is an exciting and unique opportunity to be part of an important area of our business.

"Apprentices are GSK’s future global talent and our new programme is specifically developed to provide the training that will ensure our continued understanding and capability in product, quality and patient safety."

As well as offering on-the-job experience, the programme also offers the opportunity to study towards a nationally recognised foundation degree in Applied Chemical Science Technology with the potential to go on to a Bachelors or Masters degree, based on performance and aspirations.

Apprentice Adam Penson said: “My time at GSK has been incredibly worthwhile.

“I initially applied to university but my real aspiration was to continue my studies in an environment where I could gain practical experience. It has enabled me to grow my practical skill set within a global pharmaceutical company and work with a team that can make a real difference to people’s lives."
