A BURGLAR who smashed his way into two South Lakeland businesses has been sent to prison.

Michael Green, 24, left a trail of destruction during raids on the Little Bakery and village store in Endmoor on the same night in June.

Carlisle Crown Court heard how one room was "destroyed" by Green as he embarked on a criminal expedition which netted him several thousand pounds worth of cash and goods.

However, the burglar was brought to book after blood found at one crime scene was matched to his DNA.

Green went on to admit the two burglaries, and was sentenced at the crown court today by Recorder Kevin Grice.

The crimes were said to have had a profound impact on the business proprietors, who were left out of pocket and fearful of repeat offences.

As a result Green, of Anders Drive, Kirkby, near Liverpool, was jailed for 18 months by Recorder Grice.

The judge also noted that the burglar had a "highly unattractive" criminal record.
