LAKES Alive takes centre stage this weekend with spectacular happenings galore.

The fabulous family-friendly festival runs across Kendal during the Bank Holiday weekend, from Friday-Sunday.

Among the many performances and installations will be Minimum Monument, featuring thousands of ice figures.

Brazilian artist Néle Azevedo (pictured) has been working from a temporary studio in K Village at Kendal, alongside her technicians and volunteers to make some of the 3,000, 200mm tall ice figures, which will be transported to Kendal Castle on Sunday morning and unveiled by the award-winning international artist, from noon-3pm.

The crowd-pulling programme also includes a Classical Musical Picnic, on Saturday, from 11am-5pm at Nobles Rest, with entertainment courtesy of the excellent Manchester Camerata Orchestra, alongside the Urban Astronauts of Highly Sprung Theatre’s stunning aerial performance; and Bird Hive offers a 360 degree, virtual reality flight around the Lake District on Saturday, from 11am-6pm at the Brewery Arts Centre; on Sunday it takes off from The Factory, at Aynam Road, from 11am-5pm.
