A WINDERMERE mum is hoping to stage a carnival reflecting the town's cultural richness next summer.

Dawn Rullo presented her ideas for 'resurrecting' the bygone Windermere Carnival at the recent meeting of Windermere Town Council.

Her vision of a torchlit parade of decorated floats processing from Windermere to Bowness-on-Windermere was greeted enthusiastically by councillors, who also asked questions about sponsorship from local companies and the use of the Glebe for entertainment.

Dawn, 40, has 'tentatively' pencilled in the evening of Thursday, August 3, 2017, for the carnival revival. She told the Gazette that nothing had been confirmed yet, but she is speaking to local organisations such as the town council, police and Windermere & Ambleside Lions Club to gauge support.

"I'm talking to all the right people trying to get permission," said Dawn, who has organised music festivals and free community events. "Everybody has been positive up to now so I've got all my fingers crossed. The plan, if we can, is to finish at the Glebe and have music and hopefully a fair."

Dawn has fond childhood memories of Windermere Carnival, which she believes drew to a halt around 30 years ago. Her proposed theme for 2017's revival would be 'cultures of our community', to reflect the Lake District's cultural richness through international flags, themed floats and street food stalls.
