At this time of year, I would definitely recommend using some British grown soft fruits, maybe even take the kids out to a local pick your own farm and get them to pick their own fruits ready to make into a smoothie.

Look for some raspberries and strawberries, maybe even a few blackberries picked wild if you see some about when out.

With a berry smoothie, you do need something to bolster the density, so I always add a banana or a few dried apricots that have been soaked in hot water for a while.

For two portions use about 12 hulled strawberries and about 20 raspberries, place in a blender with one small, peeled banana, add 100ml skimmed milk, 120g low fat plain yoghurt, a few dashes vanilla extract and about 10 ice cubes.

If you feeling really sneaky, add some porridge oats, for extra goodness. Blend on high speed for about two minutes, pour into a tall glass and serve.
