A 69-year-old man had to be rescued after he fell from the summit of Helm Crag, near Grasmere, while posing for a photo.
The fellwalker had slipped and fallen from the summit and down a crevice, sustaining head, neck and chest injuries.
The Langdale and Ambleside MRT crew of 16 had some difficulty rescuing the man, and the operation took three and a half hours.
The man was then evacuated to an air ambulance.
Shortly afterwards, a woman who had assisted in the rescue of the man was also injured.
The young woman was continuing her walk when she slipped and sustained a suspected fractured wrist.
She too was assisted to the air ambulance and evacuated with the previous casualty.
