MOUNTAIN rescuers encountered an unusual issue when a French walker who spoke no English suffered a suspected broken leg and needed assistance.
Penrith Mountain Rescue assisted the casualty who had been injured on the Coast to Coast Walker near Kidsty Pike, Haweswater.
To avoid a lengthy and uncomfortable stretcher carry, a Coastguard helicopter was requested, and was able to land nearby.
Both the casualty and a translating friend were then flown to Carlisle Hospital, while the team escorted the rest of their party off the hill.
This rescue took four hours and involved nine Penrith MRT members and nine Kirkby Stephen members who also assisted.
