A MAN accused of causing the death of a South Lakeland pensioner by dangerous driving has denied the allegation.

Shaun Anthony Ferguson, 22, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today and during a 15-minute hearing in front of Judge Peter Davies, pleaded not guilty to one charge.

This alleges that he caused the death of Eileen Limb by driving a Renault Scenic dangerously on the C5077 and B6254 at Old Hutton. It follows a road traffic collision at Old Hutton on April 25 last year.

Miss Limb, aged 96, was known as "Betty" and lived at Endmoor. She died on May 7 last year, and is said to have been a passenger in a car which was involved in the road collision.

Ferguson, of Ridge Square, Lancaster, spoke only to confirm his name to the court clerk, and to enter his not guilty plea.

He is due to go on trial at the crown court on November 21.
In the meantime he was remanded on unconditional bail.
