Since the December 2015 flooding, an extensive programme of recovery work has been taking place across the county in addition to the frequent maintenance programme that the Environment Agency carries out.

"We are confident of completing the recovery schedule by winter 2016," said an EA sposkerperson.

This is the weekly update of Environment Agency activities taking place in the next seven days. If your community is not included in this list it means work is not taking place this week.

The following work is scheduled to take place, subject to weather, conditions on site and need to respond to a major incidents.

Troutbeck Bridge: Environment Agency staff attended a meeting with the Flood Action Group at Troutbeck Bridge. Ongoing design work is underway to repair and replace part of the culvert upstream of the A591.

Appleby: Repair work to the river embankment walls near the bridge at Holme Street continues. The project is expected to take a total of 2 months.

Warcop: Removal of obstructions in the channel scheduled to commence this week.

Glenridding: Monitoring of the gravel continues.

Staveley: Wall reconstruction between BT yard and Abbey Bridge continues. The whole project is scheduled for completion in October 2016.

Kendal: Gravel removal has been completed in the Kent. Wall repairs completed at K-Village site. Work continuing to re-enforce river walls at several points through the town. This work is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2016.

South Cumbria Community engagement - meeting with Action with Communities in Cumbria to discuss flood resilience and for their support in encouraging individual and community resilience planning in South Cumbria, Thursday, September 15.

Braystone (Egremont): Work to continue on the blockstone repair works to the embankment of the River Ehen.

Workington: Following modelling assessment of the Derwent at several points at Workington one location has been identified as requiring gravel removal to reduce flood risk. Work is due to start here this week.

The Environment Agency have issued a permit applied for by Workington community representatives to remove additional gravel from the Derwent.

Work on the design to strengthening the embankment and reseal the flood defence wall at Barepot is underway – a meeting with the Workington Flood Action Group will be held to discuss this before work begins on the ground, which will be before winter 2016.
