A MOTORCYCLE was recovered by bay rescuers after it got stuck in quicksand at Silverdale on Sunday afternoon.

Two motorcyclists had ridden their bikes along the coast line of Morecambe towards the village, when one of the bikes got stuck in quicksand at Jenny Brown’s Point.

The riders had tried to get the bike out themselves but contacted the emergency services after they were unable to do so.

The Bay Search & Rescue team were called out at 2.45pm and were able to recover the motorcycle with a help of a Hägglund 3 rescue vehicle, which arrived from Arnside. The HM Coastguard team from Arnside also attended the incident.

Bay Search & Rescue deputy station officer Paul Calland said: “He [the motorcyclist] was lucky, because the tide set in about an hour after we attended and it was quite deep at that particular point. He would have lost his bike. Once the tide hits, the vehicle turns to scrap.”
