RESIDENTS in Grange-over-Sands are celebrating securing a multi-agency meeting to discuss flooding.

Several properties on Windermere Road in the town were flooded in August, believed to be caused by a lack of maintenance in waterways and blocked drains.

Andrew Baxter, who lives on Windermere Road, said: "This is a good first step. After the floods there was lots of positive messages on social media but we need the drains and gullies cleared and a plan in place.

"If we don't get a solution then my neighbours and I will be flooded again and again."

County councillor, Bill Wearing organised the meeting and said he had done so because the problems were 'only getting worse' but working together the community could overcome them.

"I'm urging the whole community to get involved and as a first action that the county council clear the drains before it rains again," he said.

The meeting will take place on October 4 at 7pm in the Council Chamber at the town's Victoria Hall.

Representatives from Cumbria County Council Flood Risk Management Team, the Environment Agency, Cumbria Highways and South Lakeland District Council will be in attendance.

Earlier this month Cllr Ben Berry started a 'Clear the Drains Before it Rains' campaign to help tackle the problem.
