A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison for supplying drugs in Cumbria.

Daniel Leyland, of Haresfinch Road, St Helens, was handed the sentence today (September 29) at Carlisle Crown Court after earlier pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Leyland was approached by officers in the Kirkland area of Kendal on Monday, July 25 of this year. He attempted to flee but was caught and when searched, found to have wraps of both heroin and cocaine hidden in the pockets of his shorts.

Sergeant Jamie Eaton said:

“All too often people are persuaded to transport drugs into Cumbria. These can have a damaging and long-lasting effect on our communities and we continuously work to penetrate the supply of drugs onto our streets and to put the suppliers behind bars. The prison sentence handed down to Leyland shows that we will not tolerate drug suppliers in our county.”
