POLICE are appealing for information about a burglary in Kendal in which a safe was stolen from the house of an elderly couple.

The suspect is believed to have entered the property on Castle Grove between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Tuesday.

The occupants of the house are a couple in their 90s.

It is believed that the suspect entered through the insecure front door and went to the upstairs bedroom where they removed a safe which was screwed into the rear bedroom wall.

The suspect then left, taking the safe and contents - a quantity of cash and documents - with them.

Detective Constable Tom Pearman said: “This is a particularly reprehensible offence where an elderly couple have been targeted in their own home. We would be extremely keen to speak to anyone who could assist our investigation.”

Police would appeal to any potential witnesses and would also ask members of the public to lookout for the discarded safe which is grey in colour and approximately 18 x 12 inches.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 and ask to speak to DC Tom Pearman, ext 42453, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
