RACE goers are invited to saddle up for a day of thrills and chills for all the family at Carlisle Racecourse this Halloween.

The Jockey Club venue is to host a special Halloween Race Day on Sunday, October 30 featuring first-class National Hunt racing alongside themed fun and games.

Alongside a packed race card, the event promises ghostly games, spooky trails and creepy competitions for young and old.

What's more, there is free entry for children under 17 on the day when accompanied by a paying adult.

“Our autumn race meetings are always really popular dates in our calendar," said Geraldine McKay, Carlisle Racecourse's general manager, "and we hope this special Halloween meeting will see racegoers really getting into the spirit of the day, donning fancy dress and enjoying all the fun we have on offer.

"We have lined up lots of fun and games that can be enjoyed by racegoers – no matter their age.

"And, of course, on the track we will have a first-class day of jumps racing. So, whether you are four or 104, come along and enjoy a spooky and fun day at the races.”

The day's events will feature a spooky activity trail, Halloween face painters, pumpkin treasure hunt, fancy dress competition and Halloween stalls including hook a pumpkin, tin bat alley and pumpkin hoopla. There will also be themed arts and crafts where youngsters can make lollipop spiders, hanging bats and spooky mobiles.

The October 30 race day is to feature Carlisle's most prestigious jump race, the Colin Parker Memorial [Class 1].

Gates will open at 11am, and tickets are £14 (in advance) or £17 (on the day). First race 1pm, last race 4.20pm.
