AROUND 70 people took part in the National Trust’s Night Run event at Fell Foot Park last Saturday night.

Now in its third year, Night Run events take place across 16 different National Trust places in the country, giving visitors the chance to explore hidden trails in Trust parkland.

Starting just after sunset, a good mix of both locals and holidaymakers from as far afield as Cardiff and Somerset, lined up to run the three and six kilometre routes.

Gareth Field, Outdoor and Sports Programme Manager at the National Trust, said: “It was a great event. There were lots of smiling, happy people and the weather stayed nice, which meant that it was a clear and beautiful starry night giving perfect running conditions.

"The atmosphere was relaxed and everyone – from young to old – enjoyed the routes and helped to raise some important money to support the National Trust’s work of caring for special places.”

At the Night Run, the charity teamed up with outdoor retailer, Cotswold Outdoor and a prize draw of £100 of Cotswold Outdoor vouchers were won on the night by Louise Parker from Silverdale.

The Night Run will be back in 2017, but for those wanting to take on another challenge, the National Trust has also started a new, completely free monthly running initiative at Claife Viewing Station on Windermere’s west shore. The Trust 10k takes place at 9am on the fourth Sunday of every month with the next one being on Sunday 27th November.
