A KIRKBY Lonsdale couple are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary today (October 27).

Jack and Marlene Sedgwick married at Milnthorpe Church in 1954, having met at Storth Village Hall where Jack, now 84, was playing his trumpet in the Gordon Airs dance band.

It was after they married that they moved to Kirkby Lonsdale, where they brought up their children Andrea Taylor and Simon. They also have four grandchildren and two great granddaughters who Andrea said keeps them 'young at heart'.

Marlene, 82, keeps active by meeting friends regularly and Jack still plays in the Kirkby Lonsdale brass band and keeps an allotment.

"Their secret to a long and happy marriage is enjoying life and keeping up with those closest to them," their daughter Andrea said. "They are a lovely couple. They will help anybody and do anything for everybody. They've lived in Kirkby Lonsdale for all their lives and everybody knows them."
