A BAND who came to fame under the tutelage of the Beatles are to play in Kendal after not performing in the UK for over 30 years.

Badfinger, a power pop band whose original rise took place in the 1970s, will return to the UK with a tour that will see them play songs from their back catalogue as well as some new material.

Bob Jackson joined the original line-up in the early 70s and is taking Badfinger on a series of live dates across the country. They have been on tour since September, and play the Brewery Arts Centre on December 8.

Based out of Swansea, Badfinger's original lineup formed in 1965. They initially performed under the name The Iveys, before changing to Badfinger after releasing one album.

They signed to the Beatles’ Apple label, Badfinger launched it’s career with the Paul McCartney penned classic ‘Come And Get It’ and quickly followed it up with ‘No Matter What’, ‘Day after Day’ and ‘Baby Blue’.

Their debut album 'Magic Christian Music' was released on the Fab Four's label, and would pave the way for a long career which would see them release nine studio albums, the latest being in 2000.

These early singles were all written by Pete Ham and all of which were Top 10 hits in UK, USA and Canada. 'Baby Blue' recently found itself back in the public eye as it was used at the finale of American TV series 'Breaking Bad'.

As well as having success with their own performances, Badfinger's original songs have found fame in the hands of other musicians.

Their track ‘Without You’, achieved success as a worldwide number one for Harry Nilsson and has also been performed by Mariah Carey. ‘Without You’ was written by Pete Ham & Tom Evans and described by Paul McCartney as “the killer song of all time”.

Bob Jackson has also written two new songs for the current tour. One of these, ‘In A Different World’, is available now to download for free from the Badfinger website.
