THE Clapham based Cave Rescue Organisation were called out after reports a 17-year-old walker had been injured at Crummack Dale, Austwick.

The team were called out at around 1.40pm yesterday, but were stood down whilst en route, as the casualty's companions informed North Yorkshire Police that they had assisted the injured male off the fell, and would transport him to hospital themselves.

Some team members had already arrived at the rendezvous point, including a team doctor, who decided after assessing the casualty that he required immediate splinting and pain relief for a severely dislocated knee.

The teenager was taken to the team's base in Clapham for treatment, before being transferred by ambulance to hospital.

The group were also given advice on the best course of action to take with a seriously injured casualty.
