THREE talented Kendal teenagers are celebrating their selection to England Golf's U16 North of England development squads.

All three are part of the junior section at Kendal Golf Club and received the call up after successes at club, county and national level.

Caitlin Whitehead, 14, Dominic Barron-Holden, 14, and Will Coxon, 13, will now attend monthly training at Northumberland's Matfen Hall, playing with the North of England U16 Girls and Boys squads respectively.

The training commitment includes 20 days with England Golf's coaching team, a programme of strength and conditioning, a residential golf weekend at Woodhall Spa, and fixtures against the South of Scotland squad. The Girls will also play the Boys ahead of the 2017 season.

Kendal Golf Club's PGA Professional, Ben Waller said: "We have a very active junior section with 60 boys and girls aged from four to 18 and an annual fixture list of 30 junior competitions. I think that really helps to develop young talent as they all encourage each other, grow in confidence and work to improve their golf skills together.

"It has been fantastic watching Caitlin, Dominic and Will progress and we are incredibly proud to be the home club of three of the thirteen U16 regional players. This selection is a really positive achievement for the three of them and they have worked hard to get there - we're looking forward to supporting them as they pursue their golfing careers."

The three teenagers also commented on their regional selection, which comes with a commitment to golf in all weathers: "The training is tough as we play whatever the weather but it is fun and playing with other really good golfers pushes us to get better. Our coaching team is very experienced and we're learning all the time - it's a really good opportunity."

The three hope that this selection is the first step towards England U16 recognition.
