A COMMUNITY spirited electrician has offered his services for free, to light up the Christmas tree in a North Lancashire village.

Jacob Hughes, of Hughes Electrical Contractors Limited, was asked to provide the electric supply for the festive tree in Warton.

The 29-year-old wanted to give something back to the community so decided to donate his payment to charity.

His wife, Carla, said that as a family run business they were 'very much involved in the local community'.

"We have done a lot of work with the Warton Emergency Response Flood team this year and last and I am extremely proud of my husband’s commitment to Warton and the community," she said.

"Community is really important - living in a village I have always known the importance of community. But last year, during the floods, I really was overwhelmed to see everyone pull together."

Mr Hughes, who moved to Warton when he was 13, said that the nice thing about the village was that it 'takes people in'.

"I certainly know plenty of the community," he said. "My mum is a member of the church and sings in the choir. And with the floods, I have been a part of that a little bit.

"I pledged some money to a flood prevention committee and I have offered our services to help with that.

"I just feel like everyone sort of looks out for each other. I cannot think of anywhere better to bring my son up."
