Kendal had to defend well after they cleared a corner into the box, while Andy Hawksworth headed the ball straight into the grasp of Kitchen in an otherwise uneventful first half.

Ossett opened the scoring seven minutes into the second half when Gay headed Ashley Jackson’s rebounded effort off the cross bar to Frost who prodded the ball home from close range.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty five minutes later when a Kendal defender was adjudged to have pushed Frost in the box. However Kitchen stood firm to deny Jackson who saw his tame effort well stopped.

Ossett continued to create opportunities, after Ashley Jackson sprinted 60 yards down the left before the pacy winger set up Frost who fired the ball wide of the post.

However Kendal fell 2-0 behind in the 59th minute when Gay smashed the ball home from a goalmouth scramble after a deep corner into the box by Jackson caught Kendal off guard

Kendal had a spell of pressure however Ossett defended well, while Kendal struggled to create any real opportunity on goal, as the hosts saw the game out for a convincing win.

Kendal Town manager David Foster had no complaints after the game as he spoke of his disappointment in his side’s display. He said: “We were not at the races and Ossett deserved to win. For long periods in the game there wasn’t enough going on.

“In the first half, Ossett made had a good ten-minute spell, where the team did well to withstand the early pressure. However we were comfortable at half time as there was only two shots on goal.

“However in the second half Ossett picked the tempo up and got on top of us, while we had a mad spell where they scored two goals.

“Other than that it was an ordinary game of poor quality. It was difficult to play on their pitch, but you are going to get that, and the lads have got to adjust their game to those type of surfaces.

“Overall a bad day at the office, and we need to pick ourselves up and perform better. It’s a big week of training for us, where we will prepare for the home league game with Goole, on Saturday. We are certainly much better than what we showed today and the players will be determined to prove that point at the weekend.”
