A 'SURGE in demand' at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary's accident and emergency department on Saturday has prompted the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust to call on people to help ease the pressure.
Fifty-seven ambulances and 143 people attended the department on Saturday. A Trust spokesman said that some patients are better treated elsewhere. Patients can call the NHS advice line on 111 to seek advice and those with minor illnesses or injuries that need attention can visit their nearest pharmacist, Primary Care Assessment Centre or speak to their GP.
