ULVERSTON residents are being asked to comment on proposals for new houses in the town.

Story Homes is proposing to submit a planning application for around 92 high quality new homes on land at West End Nursery, an area already allocated for housing by South Lakeland District Council.

The houses, up to 35 per cent of which will be classed as ‘affordable’, would help the local authority to meet their housing target, with a predicted 8,800 new homes required by 2025. These homes would be available for local people to rent or buy at a reduced market rate, providing a much needed boost to the affordable market in Ulverston.

The scheme will have benefits for the local economy during the construction phase as a result of direct and indirect employment opportunities through the sub-contractor and supply chains, as well as an increased demand for local services when the new houses are occupied.

If the development is approved, it would also deliver areas of green open spaces that will be accessible to the public.

David Hayward, development planner for Story Homes said: “The consultation is an opportunity for the residents of Ulverston to comment and provide feedback on our plans.

“We believe that the Story Homes product is appropriate for this site due to the high quality of our houses and also our dedication to building developments which complement the local area, through thoughtful planning and design.”

Following the consultation, which included a letter drop to the local area, Story Homes plans to submit a detailed planning application to the Council in Spring 2017.

Story Homes is a family grown Cumbrian housing developer with nearly 30 years of experience in the industry. Story Homes has two developments in South Lakeland; The Beeches off Natland Road and Ash Tree Park off Kendal Parks Road in Kendal.
