A RESIDENT of Sedbergh Road, Kendal, is seeking consent to fell two 'deteriorating' horse chestnuts.
In a letter, Peter Ainscow told South Lakeland District Council the trees, at number 35, had 'much decay' and were - in the words of a tree surgeon - 'on their way out'.
However, the owner of an allotment at Sedbergh Road who walks past the trees regularly has objected to the proposal.
Terence Slater told planners: "My heart was hurt when I saw the notice" and he added: "There will be no conker trees left in Kendal for the younger generation."
The council has until January 10 to decide whether to serve a tree preservation order on the pair of horse chestnuts, one of which was damaged by recent high winds, said Mr Ainscow.
