POLICE are investigating damage caused to a Christmas tree in Penrith town centre.
The metal frame of the tree and plants in containers were damaged which were worth just under £1,000.
The tree was damaged late on the evening of Saturday, December 3. The tree was funded by BID, comprising of local businesses and was located outside NatWest bank on Devonshire Street.
A Cumbria Police spokesperson said: "The people of Penrith take pride in their town and it is so disheartening that someone did this. The town continues to sparkle during the festive period and the public response so far on social media to this incident is a credit to the local people."
A police van which was parked on Devonshire Street had the glass from the wing mirror stolen at a similar time.
